Elizabeth Dawson ranks 5th in the World after placing 5th in the Biathle World Championships Viveiro 2017
On Sunday 24th September over 500 athletes from 30 nations took part in this event.
Elizabeth Dawson, a Yarrells School pupil, finished 5th in her U11 age category and is now ranked 5th in the World!
The GB Biathle U11 Team of three members took Silver as they placed 4th, 5th & 6th. South Africa took gold and Spain took bronze.
Biathle is a continuous run-swim-run competition open to competitors of all ages from seven to seventy! The competition consists of a pack start followed by a run, then a swim, before a final run to the finish line.
We are of course very proud of Elizabeth as she trained extremely hard over the summer holidays in preparation for the World Championships.
Yarrells hosts an extensive variety of after school clubs, where children have the opportunity to try a sport they may not know exists. The after school swimming and triathlon clubs run by Poole Swimming Club and Tri Purbeck are extremely popular and compliment the training the pupils already undertake during the school day.
Over the past year, Yarrells pupils have moved to the top step of the podium when competing in national, regional and county level in Biathle and swimming competitions.
