EARLY YEARS:

an excellent start for ages 2 to 5

The length of the school day grows as the child matures. Timing is very flexible in the Nursery so you can choose from:

  • a selection of morning and/or afternoon sessions
  • day care provision from 8:00 to 5:30
  • Music Box”, a specialist-taught music workshop

The Early Years Department (Nursery to Yr 1) has its own well-equipped building, garden and play area.

Inspired by Montessori ideals, the children learn through a wide variety of creative and play activities. They are encouraged to develop effective social skills and helped to achieve as much personal independence as possible. High standards of courtesy and self-discipline are introduced from the start.

 EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM LEARNING

  • language & reading
  • number & science
  • thinking & computer skills
  • music & movement
  • games, gymnastics, swimming
  • creative visual arts
  • drama, role play & dance
  • library & storytelling
  • specialist french & tennis from age 4
  • outdoor play, gardening & nature walks

Nursery children have main school facilities available to them, especially the pool for swimming in the Summer Term, the tennis courts, library, gym, theatre, gardens and woodland. Parents receive a termly written report based on regular teacher assessment. There are frequent conferences and an ‘open door’ policy for discussion at the end of the day. One or two evening workshops a year are offered for any parents who would like to share more closely in their child’s foundation learning.
