Apple Crumble
Following their English work on recipes, 4SQ made some
delicious apple crumble. They made enough for the whole school, so
lots of locally grown apples had to be peeled to feed everybody! |

Nursery children visited Mrs Covell's garden to watch the tree
surgeons cut down a huge diseased copper beech. |

Study Visit
Years
3 and 7 visited the Roman palace near Chichester. Year 3 enjoyed
their workshop on Roman life and Year 7 became archaeologists as
they tried to identify pieces of the building and work out how to
build the roof. |

Talk
Year 3 learnt how to look after their teeth and all about
plaque and decay from a fascinating talk and slideshow by Mrs
Skalberg. |

Day
Years 1 and 2 had an Australian Day to say goodbye to Cain and
Alex Williams who are moving to Australia. They learnt lots about
Australia and had lots of fun. |

from a Police Community Officer
A police community officer visited Reception and Nursery,
talking to them about what the police and showing them his patrol
car. The pupils really enjoyed the experience, especially when the
policeman turned the car lights and the sirens on! |

Orchestra Day at Bryanston
Year 6 and 7 had a wonderful time at this annual event. They
played with eight other schools and performed in a concert at the
end of the day. |

Barbecue
The evening was enjoyed by pupils and teachers alike.
Activities included rounders, parachute games and go-cart racing.
This was rounded up with a tasty barbecue expertly cooked by Mr
Sheppard. |

Day and Prizegiving
Parents and pupils were delighted and inspired by the displays
and work shown in all the classrooms around the school. They then
were entertained in the marquee by a variety of musical and
dramatic performances and celebrated the success of individuals
and the Yarrells school year. This was topped off by a wonderful
tea accompanied by flute and recorder ensembles. |

Night of the Proms
A very enjoyable evening was had by all who attended. The
music was fantastic and everyone joined in the singing and flag
waving. A goodly sum was raised for 'Kidsco' and the music
department. Thanks to the Friends of Yarrells who helped to
organise this successful event. Definitely one to repeat next
year. |

Congratulations to Lost Boys for winning the tribe trophy and
to Siobhan McCrea for winning the Style Cup. Lots of fun was had

Redskins won the tribe trophy, Mitchell Stanfield won the Year
4 Style Cup, and the Year 3 Style Cup was shared between Ursula

Over the summer term every pupil in each year group had the opportunity
to participate in this tennis tournament. After some highly
competitive matches, the competition culminated in the finals
being played out in front of parents, staff and pupils.

An adaptation of Shakespeare's last play, 'The Tempest', was
superbly performed by pupils from Years 5 to 8. It was an
wonderful experience they will always remember. |

Well known fairy tales characters were reunited at Sleeping
Beauty's 115th birthday party in the Years 3 and 4 play called
'Friends Reunited'. Princes and Princesses got together with
witches and wizards to join the celebration, and Cinderella
finally found her prince. |

Bears' Picnic
Nursery had great fun dressing up as native americans and were
joined by Reception and lots of teddies for a picnic in the
paddock. Reception then followed this with their sports afternoon. |

Jazz at Bournemouth Festival
This was our second entry into the Bournemouth Music Festival
and we upheld our record of gaining 1st place and receiving a
distinction for our performance. Many thanks to the large group of
parents who came to support us. |

3 and 4 Wessex Water Talk
A lady from Wessex Water came and gave a talk and did a
workshop with Year 3 and then gave the Year 4 pupils a water
challenge. Year 4 got involved in science experiments linked to
water and were set tasks relating to water usage. Wessex Water are
looking forward to our results. |

Ball
There was a Bond theme this year, complete with casino and
martinis. The Bond themed quiz was competitively participated in,
and then everyone danced the night away. |

The tribe winners were Lost Boys. Four school records were
broken and the Year 2 relay was won by Lost Boys. |

2 New Barn Study Trip
Year 2 experienced a 'lining history' day, learning about life
in the Iron Age. They made butter using a hazel stick, ground
flour and made bread. They also went inside a roundhouse and
imagined what it would be like to live in. |

Wessex
Athletics Championships
Twelve children from Yarrells participated at the Wessex Athletics
Championships at Hordle Walhampton, along with children from 25
other schools. There were particularly good performances from Thor
Conroy who won 4th in long jump, Rhys who came 8th in the 800m,
and Lauren Lyddiatt who was the winner in the rounders ball throw. |

4 Study Trip to Montacute House
On Friday, Year 4 went on a history trip to a Tudor Mansion to
learn about life of rich Tudor people. Activities included
heraldry, lavender bag making and portrait making. |

3 Wareham Study Trip
Year 3 went to Wareham as part of their history and geography
studies. The children walked along the walls, visited St Martin's
Church and the museum. A good time was had by all. |

6 Residential Trip to France
Year 6 had a fantastic time in France, practising their French
and getting involved in a wide range of activities. Activities
included fencing, climbing, visiting the war museum of St. Mère
Eglise, walking across the bay to visit Mont St. Michel, a talent
show and a French evening complete with costumes. |

Early Years classes rattled and rolled their way through their
musical, 'Mr Skellybones' with terrific enthusiasm. The production
was packed with fun and plenty of learning. |

Years 1 and 2 presented a rollicking pirate musical called 'Molly
and the Pirates'. Lively singing, jolly acting and hearty dancing
from the southern oceans were appreciated by all. |

7 Salisbury Cathedral Study Trip
On Monday Year 7 went to Salisbury Cathedral. They re-enacted the
signing of the Magna Carta, made clay gargoyles, listened to a
demonstration of the organ and went into the organ loft. They all
enjoyed climbing to the base of the spire and standing on top of
the tower looking over the surrounding countryside. They ended the
day with a reflection on Christianity and spirituality. A great
day was had by all. |

to Year 4 by Mr Taylor
Year 4 were lucky enough to have a visit from Mr Taylor (Megan
Emery-Taylor's grandfather) who told them all about his marathon
running, including his recent participation in the Boston
Marathon. The children found the talk very interesting and
inspiring. |

4 Upton Country Study Trip
Year 4 visited Upton Country Park as part of their science
topic of habitats. They undertook bug hunting, identification and
pond dipping, and learnt about the vegetation layers in deciduous
woodland and salt marshes. It was a beautiful sunny day, ideal for
the activities planned, and rounded off with a cooling ice-cream
which was well deserved by all! |

Satips
at Bryanston - A Musical Afternoon
Members of Years 3 - 5 played their instruments alongside
children from nearly 100 other prep schools. They played 3 pieces
all together, then each school played ensemble pieces. Our pupils
played 'The Song of the Volga Boatmen'. A concert for parents was
held at the end of the day. It was a lovely afternoon and the
children were fantastic. |

Gardening
Mrs Mumford, a Yarrells parent, kindly came in on Monday to
help the children in Nursery plant their own marigolds. Wigwams
were also put up ready to plant sweet peas and beans in the
Nursery garden. |

4 Mary Rose Trip
On Friday, Year 4 spent a day at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
They enjoyed interacting with living history characters in the
Mary Rose museum, became part of a gun crew and handled Tudor
artefacts as well as a preserved part of the actual ship. One of
our pupils commented, "It's the best trip I've ever been
on!" |

The Year 4 boys had their first cricket match on Monday
which they played against Clayesmore. It was a close game but
Yarrells won 238 -235. |

8 Shortbread
Sales
In ICT, Year 8 have been using Excel to do some mathematical
modelling based on making and selling shortbread for charity. They
then had to make the shortbread which they then sold at break
time. They managed to make £54.61 profit which they are giving to
Julia's House, a charity we regularly support. Well done Year 8! |

Lacey Study Trip
Year 1 went to Kingston Lacey as part of their humanities
topic on the Victorians. They dressed up as Victorians, looked
round the house and even did the laundry! |

5 Leeson
House Residential Study Trip
Year
5 had a wonderful three days at Leeson House, packed with a wide
variety of activities. They took part in a geology workshop, went
on a night walk, played team games, walked to Corfe, had a tour of
Corfe Castle, visited a quarry, and even had time for some pond
dipping, animal tracking and bird-watching. |
