The Eco Rap

Now let’s all join in!
If you flick that switch and shut that door
You won't have to worry any more!
If you turn off the tap and join the eco rap
You can give yourself a big old clap!
We don’t bin it… we recycle it!
At the moment Yarrells recycles plastic bottles, glass, tin foil, school uniform, paper, cardboard, batteries, paper towels and tin cans. This is how we recycle all these products:
- Paper is reused as much as possible before it is recycled, some of it (mostly from the office) is shredded and then used as bedding in the rabbit area, and is then put onto the compost heap
- Paper towels go on to the compost heap
- Chicken cleanings and all rabbit cleanings go on to the compost heap
- Cardboard goes into a large bin and is dealt with by the authorities
- Plastic bottles are at the moment recycled by Mrs Cuthbert, bottles are being squashed and bagged up once a week and put into the bin for tin and bottles
- Milk bottle tops are collected and sent to Gift of Sight for recycling and raising money for a good cause
- Glass is recycled by staff, not children, on grounds of safety
- Tins are being squashed and put into our new bin. thanks to the office staff for arranging. This is a new area of recycling for Yarrells
- Tin foil is also being recycled
- Batteries at the moment are being recycled by Anna Bussell and Lauren Lyddiatt
- School fabric has long been re sold in the school and now very old uniform is sent to a fabric ‘bank’
- Some ‘left over’ food each day is given to the chickens and the vegetable peelings are given to the rabbits

Year 4 RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch 2011
All of Year 4 took part in the bird watch on Tuesday 25th January.

We made sure all the feeders along the terrace were topped up and settled down to watch. As usual, the birds seemed to know that we were looking for them and hid! However, we did see seven different species of bird during the hour, including one we had never seen on the bird watch before – a nuthatch. The others were blackbird, blue tit, great tit, robin, woodpigeon and crow. We all enjoyed the birdwatch and we are now writing our own book about garden birds.
