Sunninghill Netball Tournament
Wednesday 9th March was a dry and sunny day and Year 7 and 8 girls were excited about the Sunninghill Tournament. After a warm up and group huddle we felt we were prepared for our first match against St Osmunds. The game started well for us and continued throughout the match. The final score was 11-0, a great start to the tournament.
We began our second match feeling very positive but Chilton Cantelo started quickly and we had to regain our focus. The team really pulled together with everyone playing well and we were so pleased to win 9-4. We knew we must keep our concentration as our next match was against Clayesmore. Again everyone played well and we deserved to win 7-0. Our fourth match was harder – Sunninghill played well and really wanted to win. However the Yarrells’ team were determined and the final score, although close, was still a win to Yarrells 7-5.
With two matches remaining everyone was starting to get both nervous and excited – could we finally win the Sunninghill Tournament. Our next match was against Knighton House, we kept the same positions and all said we wanted to win. It was a close fought game with both teams playing good netball, but we did it! The final score was 7-4. Port Regis was to be our final match. The team huddled together. We tried to calm our nerves and keep our spirits up. The whole team passed the ball quickly and accurately throughout the game and as the final whistle blew the score was 8-2. We had done it!
We all had a group hug and said our three cheers. We had won every match and had at long last won the Sunninghill Tournament. I would just like to say a huge ‘well done’ to the team – their spirit was amazing. Everyone played so well and we walked into tea feeling very proud of ourselves. The tea tasted extra lovely! Thank you to Mrs Davis and Miss Spokes for the many hours of netball training – at last Yarrells were Sunninghill Winners!

Bryanston Invitational Netball Tournament
On Wednesday 15th January, Yarrells under 13’s went to the Bryanston Tournament. Fifty-four schools played which is over 378 netball players. All the girls were very excited and really wanted to do well. Unfortunately we didn’t get off to a very good start losing 5-3 against Hordle Walhampton – who finished 7th in the pool altogether. Miss Spokes gave us a team talk and told us if we wanted to win the tournament we really needed to be focused. We all took her advice and our next match was against one of the toughest teams in the tournament, Dumpton. We all really focused and amazingly, with the help of some of the cheering parents, we managed to come away with a draw 4-4. Dumpton ended up finishing 3rd in the pool.
We started to believe that we could really win this as we had just beaten one of the best teams but unfortunately everything started to go downhill from there, as we lost three matches on the trot. Our last pool match was against Clayesmore, we knew if we could just win this match we wouldn’t come last in our pool, so we really worked hard won the game 3-1.
Yarrells finished 5th in our pool and went through to the Spoon Competition. Some of the players in the team had got through to this competition before and lost in extra time and so we were determined not to let it happen again! Our semi-final match was against Mount House and after a nail-biting game, we won 5-4.
We were through to the final. We had another team talk and swapped a few positions and then we wereready to win. Every single player in the team worked extremely hard in this last match and so we won 6-4.

Well done to Lauren, Georgie, Jess, Mia, Alison, Riley and Hannah and especially to Abi Robson who won player of the tournament for Yarrells. This was only the 2nd time Yarrells had ever won a trophy at this tournament so a big well done and a massive thank you to Miss Spokes for coaching and all the support we had on the day.
