Yarrells Year 5 Boys Retain BCS Football Tournament Title – CHAMPIONS!

Jayden Coombes (Year 5 A Team Captain) reports… On Wednesday, 4 October, the Year 5 A team travelled to the BCS annual football tournament. We were looking forward to the day and hoped to retain the title as we won it last year.

In the first game we faced a strong BCS A team where we knew we had to play our best. BCS scored first but we kept on trying to go forward and passing the ball but also we were solid at the back. Then Jayden struck the equaliser just before the end of the match to make it 1-1

In the second match we played Park A. We played really well. Ollie C was very strong and skilful in the middle part of the field. Then Jayden scored 2 goals and Hugo scored one. Fintan played brilliantly in goal and kept a clean sheet, with Josh O and Oli E very solid at the back. We won 3-0

Then we faced BCS B. It was an exciting match. Oli E & Josh O were again very solid at the back and Fintan kept us in the game. When we went forward Ollie C scored a brilliant goal and Hugo finished the 2nd goal nicely and we won 2-0.

At this point Mr Schneider told us that our last game will be so important as we have to win it by a few goals to give us a chance to stay top.

We played Park B. Again, we started the game very well but their keeper was brilliant, we just could not put the ball in the back of the net. It seemed to always go wide or over the bar. Then Ollie C scored 2 great goals in a few minutes and then Jayden scored the 3rd goal, then Oli E nearly scored a 4th. We worked very hard as a team. Ted came on and worked extremely hard in midfield and we nearly scored another goal. Then Park scored to make it 3-1.

We were waiting very nervously to find out how BCS A did against Park A in their last match. The game finished 0-0, which meant that we had more points than BCS A and we won the tournament.

It was another great success and we have now won it in two consecutive years.

We would like to say a big thank you to Mr Schneider and Mr Campbell-Hill for looking after us… and to the parents who came to cheer us on!
