We are delighted to announce the appointment of a new Headteacher for Yarrells. Mrs Sally Weber-Spokes BA Hons PGCE was delighted to accept our offer to start in September 2018. She was selected from a strong field of candidates and through a rigorous interview process. Of the shortlisted candidates Mrs Weber-Spokes’ warmth of personality and outstanding leadership skills made her the perfect fit. The candidates had to present to staff, board members and a panel of children from the school, which led to a unanimous decision.
A graduate of the University of Leeds, where she studied English Literature and Music, Mrs Weber-Spokes is currently Head of the Junior School at Talbot Heath in Bournemouth where she is leading a thriving and vibrant Junior community. Previously, Mrs Weber-Spokes was Deputy Head for seven years at Clayesmore Preparatory School, near Blandford Forum. She began her career as an English teacher and later, as Director of Studies at Kenton College Preparatory School in Kenya where she lived and worked with her family for seven years. A passionate educationalist, Mrs Weber-Spokes believes that, as well as ensuring outstanding educational provision across the board, a truly outstanding school needs to nurture confidence and resilience in young people so that they are able to meet life’s challenges with relish.
A keen musician, Mrs Weber-Spokes sings with the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and enjoys outdoor pursuits, most especially snowboarding and water sports, ‘when the sea is warm enough!’ She has two sons, Bill aged 17 and Robert aged 14, both of whom are at school in the local area. Speaking of her appointment to the Headship of Yarrells, Mrs Weber-Spokes said, ‘Yarrells is a school from which happiness and warmth radiates in abundance. I believe passionately that children need a secure foundation from which to grow and flourish, in all areas, and I am so looking forward to leading the Yarrells family further in its support and development of every single young person’s abilities and aptitudes, whatever those may be.’
It is clear that Mrs Weber-Spokes is a dynamic leader, highly articulate and unfailingly positive. Widely experienced, she is an inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate. She is a person for our time who thinks deeply about how we should be preparing our children to live and lead in a changing world.
If you have any questions about the appointment, please do contact the office. We will be keeping you posted in our communications and later you will be able to meet Mrs Weber-Spokes at various Yarrells events and functions. Linda Sharpe will of course remain doing a fantastic job as our Acting Head, leading an outstanding Senior Leadership Team and all our staff until the autumn term. We are all extremely pleased with Mrs Weber-Spokes’ appointment and look forward to working with her.
