What is the Extra Mile?
On Friday 23rd March pupils from Reception to Year 8 will be taking part in the EXTRA MILE raising money for a great local charity Julia’s House.
This is a chance for every child to support their community, get active and raise funds for their school.
The Julia’s House Extra Mile is unique because 50% of sponsorship money goes to your child’s school and 50% to Julia’s House.
Julia’s House provides practical and emotional support for families caring for a child with a life-limiting or life threatening condition. They tailor their care to the needs of each individual child and their family, providing frequent and regular support in their own homes, in the community or at their hospice.
Superior Sealing Technology have kindly covered any costs involved so all the money raised for Julia’s House will go directly to the charity.
Every child who raises some sponsorship money will be entered into our raffle and will also be awarded a medal for their effort. No amount raised is too small as every little helps! We will be having a special assembly on May 11th whereby a trophy will be awarded to the class that raises the most money. Also, the top three fundraisers will be presented with a ‘goodie bag’ to reward their efforts. It is not about who runs the furthest or fastest, it’s about having fun and keeping active, whilst supporting a local children’s charity and raising funds for the school.
Further raffle tickets will be available to purchase at the event with top prizes of an AFC Bournemouth signed football shirt and a signed football. We thank AFC Bournemouth for their generosity in donating these prizes. Tickets will be one pound per strip.
How does the Extra Mile work?
Every child will run, skip or walk a mile and get a sponsorship from family and friends to do so. Each child that raises sponsorship will also receive a medal for their efforts, while the class that raises the most will win a trophy!
What to do next?
Click here to download a sponsorship form and please help your child to fill it out correctly and collect the money raised, returning the form to the school office as soon as possible after they have completed the Extra Mile.
No amount of money raised by each pupil is too small – every little helps!
We hope families and friends will encourage your child to raise as much money as they can. It’s not about who runs the fastest or furthest, it’s about having fun and keeping active, whilst supporting a local children’s charity and raising funds for the school.

On the day:
Children will need to come into school wearing their full sports kit including their tribe hat and need to remember to bring in their water bottle. As ever, we ask that you make sure that everything is named clearly. Upton Infants have been invited to join us in this event so it will be busy!
Parents are more than welcome to join us at Yarrells to support the children running. Children are permitted to walk, run or even skip! The distance covered will vary according to their age.
The timings will be approximately:
- Reception – 2:00pm
- Years 1 & 2 – 2:15pm
- Year 3 – 2:45pm
- Year 4 – 3:00pm
- Year 5 – 3:15pm
- Year 6 – 3:30pm
- Years 7 & 8 – 3:45pm
The children will be supporting each other. After the children have finished their fun run, parents will be able to take their child/children home. We ask that every child is dismissed by their form teacher and signed out for safeguarding purposes.
Please confirm to the email that was sent to you that you are happy for your child to be included in promotional pictures and videos of the day. Julia’s House will be using this in the future to further promote the ‘Extra Mile’.
