In Oct 2013 we set up a ‘Buddy’ system – this is a friendship or buddy system as a form of peer mentoring and support for new pupils joining the school to ensure that pupils starting at Yarrells will have a welcoming experience right from the very start. The benefits are twofold: the current children have the opportunity for responsibility, while the new children know that they have a fellow student to whom they can turn for support. Every new child is given a senior partner to act like an older brother or sister to help them in settling in. We also assigned every Reception pupil a special ‘buddy’ who will seek them out or say hello from time to time to ensure they feel very much a part of the Yarrells family and are cared for as significant members of the school community.
