Nursery Chef

Yarrells: A great big hug of a school!

Yarrells School and Nursery is looking for a skilled, creative and hardworking Nursery Cook / Chef to join our team. You will work 20 weeks per year, during the school holidays, between approximately 9am and 1pm.

We are seeking a very special person to join us in this catering role. Someone who:

  • Has experience of preparing and cooking raw-ingredients in-line with a set menu, to produce a range of different meals that cater for varied dietary requirements, in a professional kitchen environment.
  • Is able to accurately record temperature checks, understand allergy management and food wastage, and will work within health, safety and environment guidelines as required.
  • Can ensure that a clean, safe and tidy 5-star kitchen is maintained, ensuring appropriate COSHH and allergy management protocols are implemented at all times.
  • Will work within a tight budget and champion healthy eating.

You will have a positive attitude, an ability to work on your own and as part of a team, and a willingness to be an active part of a busy prep school and Nursery environment.

 

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience working in a professional kitchen, ideally within a school or similar environment.
  • Strong cooking skills, including baking and dessert preparation.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene, safety regulations, and allergen awareness.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and on your own, and under the direction of the Catering Manager.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to support the team with various kitchen and dining tasks.

 

Desirable:

  • Food Hygiene Level 2 or higher (or willingness to obtain).
  • City & Guilds catering qualification (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in school catering or working with large-scale meal preparation.
  • A willingness to be an active part of a busy prep school and Nursery environment.

Contract: permanent
Hours: part time, school holidays ONLY, Monday to Friday, guideline 20 hours per week
Salary: £12.21 to £14.50 per hour, dependent on experience
