AVAILABLE ROLES

Governor role on the Yarrells Advisory Governing Body (AGB)

Our current vacancies are:

  1. Chair of the AGB
  2. Chair of the Education Committee

Yarrells, our wonderful school, is currently thriving under Sally Moulton’s leadership and we are pleased to be nearly full for many year groups.

Yarrells is a family-owned business. My parents ran the school for some years, changing the name from St. Monica’s to Yarrells School during their time. We have three directors in the family (my brother, my mother and myself) and we all look after the business. We are fortunate to have a number of advisory governors that advise both the family, the Head and the Senior Leadership Team. They are a crucial part of the school.

The full Advisory Governing Board (AGB) meets on a termly basis with some additional, smaller, sub-committee meetings in education, safeguarding, operations and finance held once a term. These are more informal meetings and matters discussed feed into full governor meeting agendas. The AGB is made up of professionals with relevant current or prior experience in education, business, marketing, finance and project management, as well as individuals who wish to give some of their time to the further development of Yarrells as a vocational desire.

We are always keen to welcome people to the AGB and want it to be a body of people that can really support the work of Yarrells through offering a listening ear, guidance, support and, indeed, accountability to those in charge of the school’s operations.

Our current Chair is Ian Glen and we have been very fortunate to work with him over the last seven years. Ian’s background is in business and his children came to Yarrells some years ago. Ian joined the AGB after his youngest child left Yarrells and this is in fact something many of our AGB members have done, as we find parents often like to give some of their expertise and experience back to the school when their children are leaving or near to leaving.

Our current Chair of the Education Committee is Dave Parker and he has been a member of the AGB for 11 years. Dave has worked in education throughout his career, having enjoyed two headships and ultimately working for the Prince’s Trust in an advisory capacity before retiring. Dave has provided the AGB with invaluable support during his time with Yarrells, but at 80, he has now decided it is time to hand over the baton!

We would very much like to hear from you if you are interested in becoming an advisory governor to the school in any capacity and in particular, if you would be interested in taking up the role of Chair to the AGB, or Chair of the Education Committee.

If you are interested, please contact Hannah Plane; she will arrange for you to have a chat with Sally, who will give you an outline of the roles and explain how we can all work together.

It really is a rewarding experience and, in your role, you will be making a central contribution to young people’s education at Yarrells.

We hope to hear from you soon!
