Set among established oaks, sycamores, and ancient beeches, the Greenwood is one of the most extraordinary early years environments you'll find anywhere. It is where the Yarrells story begins, and now, with the opening of our new Baby Unit, it starts even earlier than ever before.
The Building
An Extraordinary Place to Begin
Built in 2016 and designed by award-winning Dorset-based architect Adam Covell of ECA, and Director of Yarrells, the Greenwood was created to mark both Yarrells' passionate commitment to the natural environment and the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare, whose own Forest of Arden was a place of magic, discovery and transformation.
The building rises on 54 posts above a lightweight elevated steel frame, floating amid the school's surrounding woodland. Its elegant butterfly roof sits among established oaks, sycamores, cedars, hollies, maritime and Scots pines, chestnuts and beeches, a giant and beautiful treehouse for learning. The outdoor playdeck was built encircling a huge, flourishing English oak, which remains at its heart to this day.

Our New Baby Unit — Welcoming from Six Months
As the Greenwood celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2026, we are delighted to mark the occasion in the most wonderful way, by welcoming babies from just six months old into our brand new Baby Unit.
Carefully designed with the youngest children in mind, our Baby Unit offers a nurturing, stimulating, and safe environment where babies can explore, develop, and thrive under the care of our dedicated early years team. It is the next step in Yarrells' commitment to supporting children and families from the very earliest stages of life, and a fitting milestone as we approach our centenary in 2027.
