Every Child Known, Every Child Supported — Individual Needs at Yarrells

Ask any Yarrells parent to describe the atmosphere at our school and the same words come up time and again, happy, nurturing, caring. That's no accident. It's the result of a whole school approach to knowing, supporting and championing every single child in our care.

A specialist team behind every child

Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators and their team of specialist, qualified staff work both one-to-one and in small groups throughout the week, providing tailored support that makes a genuine difference. Every child who needs additional support has an individual provision plan, and our team liaises closely with parents, class teachers, and external specialists to ensure strategies are followed through consistently.

We have a fine track record of success and are proud of the value we add to each child's learning journey, whatever form that journey takes.

Pastoral care that wraps around every child

Each child's form tutor works closely with our pastoral leadership team, PSHE co-ordinator, and SEN and safeguarding teams, all of whom consult with our Head, Mrs Clare Cunningham. Parents are involved throughout. We walk alongside families through the good times and the more challenging moments, always with warmth and without judgement.

Wellbeing woven into every day

Pupil wellbeing isn't a bolt-on at Yarrells, it's embedded into everything we do. Our Buddy Break scheme pairs senior pupils with Reception children, building friendships and confidence on both sides. Our Wellbeing Committee, part of our Pupil Parliament, leads assemblies, runs clubs, and recently created "The Woodpecker Shed", a breaktime resource filled with play equipment chosen by the children themselves.

For those who need a little extra support, our two qualified Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs) are on hand whenever a child needs someone to turn to. And throughout the year, enriching activities, from Zen Guinea Pig Club to Forest School "Walking with Winnie", meditation, gardening and nature trails, nurture emotional health and a deep connection to the world around them.

A culture that is kind to its core

At Yarrells, every child matters. Our whole school culture is kind and considerate, and we hold that standard with care and consistency, from the classroom to the playground, and from Nursery all the way through to Year 6.
