A Fantastic Afternoon of Sport at Yarrells!
We had a brilliant afternoon of fixtures at Yarrells, hosting Park School Year 5 & 6 for basketball and netball. Both sports were played with great enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout. The afternoon was rounded off perfectly with a match tea. Huge thanks to Mr Fisk for organising the event. More details to follow in this Friday’s newsletter. Well done to everyone, fantastic performances – you did us proud! 👏

Yarrells School Marks Holocaust Memorial Day
At Yarrells, our role is not to overwhelm children with the horrors of the past, but to help them understand, in an age-appropriate way, where prejudice, intolerance and unchallenged hatred can lead. This year’s theme of Holocaust Memorial Day “Bridging Generations”, reminds us of the importance of passing on stories and values from one generation to the next. As the voices of survivors become fewer, education becomes ever more vital.
Learning about the Holocaust is not simply about dates and facts. It is about developing empathy, recognising unfairness, and encouraging children to speak up when they see exclusion or discrimination. These are values that sit at the heart of life at Yarrells: kindness, respect and responsibility for others.
We are fortunate to have access to excellent educational resources that help schools approach these conversations thoughtfully and sensitively. Through stories, discussion and reflection, children can begin to understand the importance of standing against hatred in all its forms and of treating everyone with dignity.
Holocaust Memorial Day reminds us that education has a powerful role to play in shaping the future. By guiding children to think carefully, compassionately and courageously, we help them grow into young people who will contribute positively to society.
This is a shared responsibility, and one we take seriously. Thank you to our staff and families for supporting these important conversations and for helping us nurture a Yarrells community built on understanding and respect.
Mrs Cunningham - Head.
