Year 4’s at Rippa Rugby Tag Festival at Chapel Gate
The Year 4 team took part in a thrilling afternoon of tag rugby at Chapel Gate.
Their solid defence was matched by scintillating running, dodging and great teamwork in attack in a wonderful team effort, and all the children made great progress throughout the day.

Winter Tennis Celebrations!
I am very pleased to share some of the highlights from the tennis courts. Despite the tricky and very unpredictable Spring Term weather we have managed to run match week from Reception to Year 6.
It was lovely to witness how much our pupils have improved both technically and in their confidence. I am super proud of everyone for their fantastic effort and fair play on the courts.
We are all looking forward to the most exited Summer Term here at Yarrells packed with fantastic events, tournaments and trips.
I am very pleased to announce the Yarrells Tennis Academy for the Spring term.

Year 5 performed with confidence for their performance of 'The Greatest Show' this week, displaying marvellous skills.
Performing in these shows gives a real sense of achivement to the students, as you can see by their comments:
Lizzy: I enjoyed the funny and sad times. It was amazing and felt like we were a family. We all worked together and enjoyed supporting one another.
Sophia: It was so fun watching everyone grow in confidence. I was the showman and had to be big and bold. I was nervous at the start but as the amazing show went on everyone became better.
Marcy: As soon as I took one step on the stage I had a swarm of butterflies in my tummy but I knew that if I made a mistake, the audience didn't know the script and I happily finished my solo song.
Isla: It was fun and I loved working with everyone because I got to work with people I wouldn't normally work with.
Ella: I really enjoyed the play. It was scary at first because there were so many people in the crowd but then I got into it and it was fun.
Harry: My character was fun to play because I was an evil and comical villain so if the audience booed or cheered it means you've done a good job.
Sophie: As a team, we collaborated and had some fun. Some things did not go to plan but it made us laugh. I'm happy and pleased with all the year.

Spectacular Year 6 Performance of Oliver!
On Thursday 14th March 2024, the Year 6 pupils performed the musical Oliver! The end result, that took place on stage in Swan, was phenomenal – a must see.
Children at Yarrells from the age of 2 to 11-years-old are encouraged to express their inner performer through dance, drama and singing sessions. The performance given in Year 6 offers an opportunity for the children to show off the skills they have gained over the years through their lessons and annual productions.
Starring Rory Wilton as Oliver and Lily Draper as Nancy, the performance was dramatic and detailed. As well as acting during their spoken parts, they were reacting to the drama around them. “Learning to act is extremely enriching because it teaches you how to collaborate, as well as to use facial expressions and project your voice,” said Guy, who played Mags Maggot. The drama aspect of the musical Oliver! was amazing thanks to the brilliant directions done by Mrs Gill which is what made this play phenomenal. The favourite part for some of the Year 6 pupils was when Oliver assaulted Noah; this was because of how Noah made fun of Oliver’s mum.
Year 6 performed many famous songs from Oliver! Including: ‘Consider Yourself’, ‘I’d Do Anything’ and ‘Food, Glorious Food’. Every child was involved in the singing aspect of the show and enjoyed it greatly. The songs would not have been so amazing without the talented Ms Stocken, who worked tirelessly with every child to make the singing perfect.
Here at Yarrells, pupils have the opportunity to dance from an early age with the gifted Mrs May. In the production of Oliver!, the children got to show off their dance skills in many different styles, such as tap, ballet, country and freestyle. Not only that, but the audience was treated to solo, duet and group performances.
Not only did the children benefit from learning performing arts, Oliver! enhanced their knowledge of the Victorian era, which they had been learning about in history.
Consider yourself informed!

On Wednesday, we visited Clayesmore to compete in their re-arranged cross-country relays.
We entered with two Year 5 teams and they both should be extremely proud of their efforts throughout. Upon arrival, we walked the course to allow all the children to feel familiar with the route and the children really enjoyed the wall jump section.
One team consisted of KIt BM, Will M, Leo P and Louis R, whilst the other team was Rufus K, Harry H, Felix W and Freddie H.
Our A team finished in a time of 41.48 and our B team finished in 50.45.
Overall, this meant that our A team won the competition by a healthy time of over 4 minutes - a fantastic effort!!
Louis R also managed to get a course lap record, running his leg in a time of 8.58! A fantastic effort from all, well done Team Yarrells!

On Tuesday we travelled to Bournemouth Collegiate School for a Year 3&4 netball fixture.
Our children showed great determination and passion against a strong opposition. The teams learnt to move the ball quickly in possession and create space for the person on the ball. They also learnt the importance of marking the opposition when the ball is lost.
There was some great shooting and passing on display and Yarrells should be really proud of their efforts shown!
Well done all!

Today we travelled to @bcs_school for a Year 5&6 girls netball fixture, and for some of our children their last netball game at Yarrells!
The children learnt a lot during the game including the importance of moving the ball quickly and accurately, when to use different types of passes and how to move into a space away from a defender. There were some excellent goals scored and the children showed great teamwork, resilience and determination throughout.
Well done to both teams.

This afternoon we travelled across Dorset to Milton Abbey to take part in their cross-country in their stunning grounds. Upon arrival we walked the course and found it to be extremely wet and boggy, which was expected after the recent weather. Nonetheless, the children still happily took to the start line to race against the other schools in attendance.
The children ran so well in tough conditions, a special mention to Kit BM who lost a shoe half way round in the mud and was still determined to get to the finish line, finishing in just his sock! Louis R won the boys race in a time of 7.42 and received a medal for his efforts.
The individual results were as follows:
Boys:
1st Louis R
4th Guy K
7th Oli N
8th Kit BM (with one shoe on!)
Girls:
13th Lily D
14th Darcey LW
17th Emma U
18th Ruby K
A fantastic effort from all the runners, well done!

World Wildlife Day
Today Sunday 3rd March brands, sports teams, charities and schools will be uniting to remove nature from their logos to raise awareness of the nature crisis.
We have removed the woodpecker from our logo across social media for the day to help demonstrate what a world with no nature would be like.

Basketball
“On Wednesday, Park School travelled over to us for a basketball fixture. The children have only had a few basketball lessons so far this term but the children were very excited for the fixture, and for the majority of the children it was their first ever basketball match. The weather wasn’t on our side with constant rain throughout but the children’s attitude and effort throughout was incredible, playing with smiles on their faces and enjoying their first real taste of the sport.
As the games developed, our children began to get to grips with all of the basketball rules, as well as showing some excellent passing, shooting and dribbling, all of which had been worked on in their PE lessons. Yarrells began to understand the importance of moving the ball quickly and passing to the person in space in order to create better scoring opportunities as well as supporting the player on the ball. There were some excellent shots scored from distance and fantastic sportsmanship shown throughout.
Thank you to Park School Independent Prep for coming over and giving our children an enjoyable afternoon of basketball”

We are delighted to announce that we have appointed Clare Cunningham, the new Head of Yarrells School & Nursery from 1st September 2024.
You will appreciate the double challenge any internal candidate faces when applying for a post such as this: in every way they have to shine that bit more brightly than the ‘new faces’ that arrive for interview. We feel it is a huge testament to Clare that she showed herself to be eminently capable of leading Yarrells into its future. Her passion for the school, as well as the leadership skills and experience she holds inspire us with confidence that she is the ideal person to be at the helm from September.
Clare has been both a member of staff and a parent at Yarrells so knows the school very well. In the time she has been at Yarrells, she has worked to support children with a range of educational needs, from preparation for scholarship and 11+ grammar school places through to specialised 1:1 sessions for children with specific learning needs. Clare has taught maths and study skills, been a form tutor to children in numerous year groups and in recent years has held the leadership post of Deputy Head, Pastoral and Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Clare has worked very closely with Sally Moulton over the last six years and been centrally involved in the strategic development of the school as well as continuing to lead on pastoral and broader educational practice. At interview, it was Clare’s strategic and business acumen combined with her deep educational knowledge illustrated all the skills and personal qualities to make her the ideal next Head of Yarrells.
It is doubly fortunate that Clare and Sally will now have ample time to work together in a handover as the rest of the academic year unfolds. You will all have the opportunity to get to know Clare in more depth as time moves forward and I know she is very excited about taking more of a public-facing role in the coming weeks and months.
From our Directors and Advisory Governing Body.
